Autopilot in aviation does not mean self-driven aircraft but a sophisticated tool used by pilots to perform the climbs, the cruise, the descends, the approach, and sometimes the landing itself. Actual pilots heavily rely on their autopilot to take real-time accurate down to milliseconds measurements from sensors around the aircraft and do the actual precise calculations. A slight one-degree veering off course would mean landing on a different continent. Passengers are expected to travel from Point A to Point B because of the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of the data measured and calculated by the autopilot. Air travel would not be as efficient without these technological advancements.
Similarly, the integration of Augmentive Artificial Intelligence (AAI) into the election process will objectively improve the existing operation; the only failing is with the human aspect. Manually doing things takes time and is highly susceptible to error. Further, when you place humans in the position of validation and when they err, it’s already too late. People already assumed that anything happening behind closed doors is ripe for abuse and manipulation. As a result, they would speculate about who else may have made the error if one validator made it. People then would suspect that all validation was compromised by tampering purposefully with the raw data. All honest efforts of validators would be entirely invalidated by a single error. This sows distrust in the whole operation. This is where Valmiz, an AAI, comes in.
Now consider, an election aided by AAI. To say the least, it would be free from human error. This would ensure the election system’s integrity by validation (i.e. authenticating voters’ identity). Having an AAI in the verification process can significantly decrease fraud. For example, AAI can be utilized in updating and maintaining the voters’ database against the local civil registry data. It could confirm that the individual is of legal age to vote and be allowed to register. At the same time, confirming voter data and figuring out whether voters have relocated or are no longer eligible. Another validation to consider is for signature verification, comparing specimen on file (which may also include pressure, lifts, strokes, speed, and direction of the signature) verifying its authenticity, and confirming an individual’s identity further increasing security. Cross-referencing the information from the civil register for death records is also an integral part of validation. This will enable states to revoke the voter records of people who have passed away and prevent cheating.

• or they no longer reside in the jurisdiction

AAI is also utilized in security during the actual automated elections. Data is vulnerable unless properly encrypted or otherwise protected from possible hackers. For the security of transmission, bi-directional communication must be secured. Thus, improving encryption, and increased threat detection by identifying any interference from IP addresses helps to defend against internet dangers. It also validates monitored time and date in every data uploaded to its servers and simultaneously backs them all up. Electronic equipment can also be credibility monitored, by logging all authorized software updates and preventing unauthorized modifications. What, then, stands between AAI integration into the election process? As stated above, in this case, the best course of action will be to determine fraud solely based on data analysis. If the system is rife with errors and inefficiencies, objectively, learning these shortcomings early on is also an advantage. This knowledge may be immediately used to fix and improve the systems’ inaccuracies.
