First, a caveat, artificial intelligence (AI) as we know it today is of a completely different species—or is still way far off from the AI in the movies. Nor, the far fetch fantasy of AI overlords slaving the very humans that created them. This is commonplace in the news today trying to hype everything that is AI. Surprisingly, even experts are leaning towards the possibility of this happening even calling a six-month halt to the development of AI. What’s more, given the rudimentary state of AI today, numerous malicious use were already been reported. Would the fear of AI taking over be warranted? Like any other tools, these are not malevolently sentient but are simply implements being used. Self-consciousness is not even the primary aim of AI developers. Furthermore, intelligence in artificial intelligence does not only mean self-awareness or taking its meaning literally. It is difficult to quantify the intelligence in AI. Take for example the basic Intelligence Quotients (IQ) test which measures the analytical, mathematical, and logical reasoning of an individual; all of this could be programmed into the AI. Thus, like a calculator that could compute in milliseconds, it would be unfair for us to compete with it and call the calculator intelligent. The point is, though still is a branch of technology, innovation towards this was not a big leap since its genesis.
One news reported that AI was used in the kidnapping, but the actual culprit was not the AI but was an accessory to an elaborate scam. Nonetheless, fear-mongering is the marketing strategy of the day.
Human-like features such as understanding input in narrative prompts and learning from the data it collected are being added into AI, yet they are still far from becoming autonomous and sentient. Adding these features only simplified and improved user and machine interactions. The user can communicate in plain language and the AI understands as if it was machine language and will provide a reply different from its own but based on the users’ inputted language—thus it would then appear that the AI understands human language. But at the end of the day, the AI still treats it (input) as a bunch of symbols and then the programmed rules are applied for it to have a proper reply as would have by a human. Recently, chatbots are getting the spotlight in AI development. When asked, these chatbots replied emphatically like humans, and can solve complicated coding problems. It would appear that we are getting closer to imbuing AI with self-awareness but nothing could be further from the truth.
It goes without saying that there are a lot of systems that go unnoticed but they are there to make our daily lives easier, more convenient, and safer. Consider the automated anti-lock braking system (ABS) of your motorbike or car that keeps you safe on the road. The time the system needs to calculate the rotational speed of the wheel and the speed of the vehicle and at the same time control the hydraulic valves during a panic break is significantly improved due to its dedicated electronic control unit (ECU). But they were never categorized as an AI.
So it is still arguable that even when an AI possesses human-like qualities such as communicating in plain language but fails to possess intelligence, it is not an AI but a sophisticatedly written code for automation. We cannot simply affix AI to its name and call it a day. As mentioned above, the intelligence in AI is not self-consciousness (being sentient in movies) but the depth and insights from seemingly unrelated data it processes and make sense of it.
Advancement in AI means evolution in data processing and developers are racing to make this as efficient and powerful as the current technology allows. Valmiz Aurora (VA) that utilizes multi-agent AI that communicates with one another. Meet Veda, Vela, Vera, Vega, and Vix. These are intelligent agents for information augmentation that uses novel approaches and methods for data analysis and discovery. Instead of focusing on one do-it-all AI, having multiple specialized components significantly increase efficiency and accuracy.
An AI program using machine learning can only produce a ‘good’ program if we give it good data and good instructions (Sabouret, 2020, p. 35). Valmiz Aurora is already under development long before AI became a buzzword. Valmiz Aurora is comprised of five primary systems: (1) Veda is the core AI system that fuses knowledge graphs and knowledge bases; (2) Vela is the system that gathers data from different data sources; (3) Vera tracks key-value-metadata changes; (4) Vega is the data storage system; (5) and Vix is the human-machine interface for receiving commands. All of these components work together to make new and existing data into living knowledge bases available for end-users (analysts and engineers) for decision-making because there is some information that can easily be missed even for the most discerning. With these core components—Valmiz Aurora is a forerunner in the AI race.
The basic definition therefore of AI is being redefined. With Valmiz Aurora, intelligence is not solely found in the core AI program but also in the: (a) information gathering and processing with (b) its human-like interactions; (c) how the data are being labeled and stored, and the (d) resulting knowledge base it created and continually analyzes and processes. These core components are inseparable, melded together. Now we could consider what AI could mean—intelligent systems used to perform novel information gathering and information processing which create augmented intelligent knowledge bases for the end-users.
How can your business take advantage of Valmiz Aurora? First, by integrating early. The more Valmiz Aurora learns your data the more it can accurately build your knowledge base. Second, all incoming data right after the integration would be properly processed, sorted, stored, and prepared for seamless intelligent data retrieval. Third, likewise, with your business and the created knowledge base, both grow and expand. We would like to learn more about your business and get in touch.
